VTOL Technologies’ Flying-Wing VTOL UAV

VTOL Technologies is proposing an unmanned aerial vehicle that can take off vertically and maneuver around tops of buildings for security monitoring at the London Olympics. The single fixed-wing aircraft would be able to lift off the ground with four thrust vectoring ducted-fan units.

Falx Air’s coaxial UAV helicopter to be powered by a hybrid engine

In a bid to green aviation, Falx Air has unveiled the final design overview of its hybrid electric coaxial helicopter UAV. The UAV is intended to be powered by an advanced fast charging battery systems that are being developed in the U.S. Keeping the weight of the aircraft under control had to be a priority, which the company hopes to implement by developing the airframe from aerospace certified composite materials.

Aurora’s solar-powered UAV can stay aloft for five years

Aurora Flight Sciences has revealed the design of an unmanned aircraft for DARPA’s Vulture Program, which will be able to fly for a period of five years on solar energy. Known as the Odysseus, the aircraft is designed to fly in the stratosphere at altitudes in excess of 60,000 feet. The aircraft is made by combining three individual constituent aircrafts that are arrange in a unique Z wing configuration optimizing solar collection during the day.
