The Honda Helix concept with advanced adaptive polymers can change its shape, color and even material properties when required. The three distinct conformations of Helix are A, B and Z. The car is short and wide when it is in “A” status for lighter and intertwining road system cities where the vehicle can run fast. “B” is low and long Helix for sprawling cities where long distances are allowed for high speed voyage. For congested cities, the tall and thin “Z” model comes in where occupants seat vertically on two levels. The use of flexible and renovating multi-functioning parts, this car can react to particular environments and traffic conditions by changing the orientation for optimal user functionality and environmental operation.
NASA’s 12-wheeled Small Pressurized Rover raced (for a lunar rover that is) across the moon-like Arizona outback this week at 6 mph (10 kmh) as part of the 11th annual Desert Research and Technology Studies (RATS). A two-man crew took the buggy on one-day trips to test its performance and comfort, and is scheduled to take it on three-day trips later this week.
NASA is aiming to return man to the moon by 2020, almost 50 years after the last manned moon landing in 1972. This time it’s hoped the astronauts will construct a long-term lunar base and mount larger expeditions. To help with both goals, a new generation of lunar rovers is being designed to facilitate more frequent, convenient and safer lunar travel. While the buggies on the Apollo missions only provided a 6 mile range, the presence of two or more SPRs will provide a range of over 150 miles.
The creature guard concept is a self initiated project by car designer Nils Poschwatta, which is a futuristic vehicle that protects endangered animals as well as any kind of living being that needs emergency help. The designer has envisioned this innovative vehicle consisting of a bionic sting-ray, with the ability to fly really fast at a lower altitude, and a pilot with specially designed outfit. This ray is detachable and is interconnected to the propulsion unit through its bio-morph grip. This vehicle features a 1:4 scale model of the vehicle and the pilot by using clay.
Surveillance operations need to be quick, and the SiFi Ryder concept from designer Christopher Hall seeks to accomplish exactly that. Bird-like in appearance, the SiFi Ryder is powered by a jet-engine and is designed to give a light motorcycle feel. The concept has a landing-gear that can allow it to touch the ground in a number of different terrains.
